We would like to share our history with you, just as you share yours with us. One man, with the assistance of family and colleagues along the way, had a vision of paradise that is what you see today.. . the Beachcomber.
Ronald Russell Sr. was born in Garniel, Montana. He was blessed with an adventurous spirit and a big dreams. After a series of relocations, service in World War II, and beginning a family, his life took yet another turn as he left Philadelphia one cold day he headed south in search of paradise.
The move to Florida was golden. Mr. Russell and partner Ben Kilpatrick purchased 150 feet of oceanfront property in Pompano called “The Beachcomber Villas Motel”. The parcel of land would become the current Villa section, but at the time the property consisted of just nine Villas and a two story building. They soon added a second two-story oceanfront building on the southernmost edge of the property and changed the name once again to “The Beachcomber Villas".
The team purchased the ad
joining 150 feet of beachfront and began plans
for adding a third building. The main building
was originally 6 stories with lovely oversized
Mediterranean style balconies that still remain
the signature feature of the Beachcomber. They
finished this project and we now called the
property “The Beachcomber Lodge Villas.” Before
Mr. Kilpatrick’s death, he consolidated his
stock with Mr. Russell in, giving Mr. Russell's
sole ownership of the hotel. At a later date the
top three floors were added to the main building
and rooms were added to the north side.
In
recent years, the hotel has made many
renovations to update the image and style of the
property. Guests now enjoy Spanish tile roofs
and walkways, tropical foyers with lush
landscaping and fountains and an impressive
entry way. Currently, the hotel is planning
future renovations to further enhance the charm
of the resort.
The Russell family still remains
extensively involved in the Beachcomber. Ron
Russell Sr.’s children are all very accomplished
in their own right and have been by his side
working in the family business. Cecilia,
formerly Vice President of Sales & Marketing,
sits on the Board of Directors. Maureen is in
charge of all Interior Decorating projects. Ron
Junior, Vice President, heads all Engineering &
Maintenance divisions. Charles, formerly General
Manager, is CEO of Great Locations Magazine.
Eileen assists with purchasing for the Interior
Decoration projects. Emily, the baby, is still
in school.
Ron Russell Sr. remains very active
in the executive decisions of the hotel and
oversees management to ensure that the high
standards he established which are maintained.
With the help of his sons and daughters, Ron
Russell is happy to have built a piece of
paradise for guests to enjoy year after year. |
